Low Blood Sugar Symptoms With Relief & Prevention Options For Low Blood Sugar Symptoms

Low blood sugar symptoms can occur for many different reasons. There are many different low blood sugar symptoms that you may or may not notice if you have low blood sugar.

What you need to be able to do is identify the symptoms of low blood sugar and then prevent the symptoms of low blood sugar from occurring in the future.

Low blood sugar is also referred to as hypoglycemia. This is when your blood glucose levels fall below 60 to 70 mg/dl.

The symptoms of low blood sugar may occur if and when you use insulin or as a reaction to certain prescription medications.

If at anytime you notice one of more low blood sugar symptoms make sure you check it using a good blood glucose analyzer.

Here are some of the more common symptoms of low blood sugar that you may notice. Keep in mind however, that not everyone will see all or any of these symptoms of low blood sugar.

  • Trembling;
  • Cold sweat;
  • Disorientation;
  • Numb feeling in your lips;
  • Nausea or vomiting;
  • Elevated heart rate;
  • Irritability;
  • Headaches;
  • Tingling in various parts of your body;
  • Constant food cravings;
  • Distorted eyesight;
  • Light-headedness;
  • Chronic fatigue;
  • Seizures
  • Lack of concentration;
  • Periods of unconsciousness.

There are a couple of things you can do if you notice any symptoms of low blood sugar.

First, you should test your blood sugar level using one of the many blood glucose analyzers that are available. Doing this is important for a couple of reasons:

For many people there are no noticeable symptoms of low blood sugar in the first place, so you should test your blood sugar level often.

And, even though you may notice one or more symptoms of low blood sugar you may actually not have low blood sugar at all.

Now if you are positive that you do have symptoms of low blood sugar then you should try to treat it as soon as you possibly can.

You can do this by taking one of the many special diabetic foods that are available for those with diabetes. These foods with fast-acting sugars will help to correct any blood sugar symptoms.

You must also realize that you may have to call your doctor or other health care professional if you have just started taking diabetes medication or think that your diabetes medication may need to be changed.

You should also contact your doctor if you have two or more low blood sugar symptoms in a 24 hour period; if you have low blood sugar symptoms at the same time every day for several days in a row or if your symptoms of low blood sugar were so intense that you needed assistance from someone.

Of course you can be affected by the symptoms of low blood sugar at any time of the day or night. Low blood sugar symptoms may not be as noticeable especially when you are sleeping.

However, if you do wake up during the night and have low blood sugar, you may notice one or more of the following symptoms of low blood sugar.

  • Frequent nightmares;
  • Extreme sweating that soaks your clothes or bed sheets;
  • Waking up with an elevated heart rate;
  • Unable to go back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night.

Blood sugar symptoms can lead to serious health problems if they are not treated properly. Low blood sugar symptoms can lead to seizures and fainting spells.

It's important to try and identify any symptoms of low blood sugar and then try to find out what's causing them so you can try and prevent any future symptoms of low blood sugar from occurring.

Make sure you discuss any prevention methods with your doctor first.

There are some common causes of symptoms of low blood sugar that you may be able to identify with. They are:

  • Poor diet and nutritional choices, especially if you are to be following a specific diabetic diet, but aren't;
  • Excessive exercise without any calories in your system;
  • Too much diabetes medication or a change in the time you take your diabetes medication;
  • Taking too much insulin or diabetes pills or changing the time you take your medicine;
  • Stress;
  • Alcohol.

If you know why you experienced symptoms of low blood sugar you can take the necessary steps to help prevent it in the future.

If you suspect that you are experiencing low blood sugar symptoms then there are two things that you need to do.

First, test your blood sugar level. The only way to know that your blood sugar level is within your target range is to monitor your blood sugar levels by testing your blood with good blood glucose analyzers.

Testing your blood sugar level with blood glucose analyzers will show if your meals, exercise, and diabetes medications are balancing each other.
