Prostate Cancer Tests Examined

What Prostate Cancer Tests Should You Take?

Prostate cancer tests are some of the most important procedures for men. As you may already be aware, prostate cancer signs can show up in men of almost any age and without much warning.

Prostate cancer tests are even more important for men who have a history of prostate cancer in their family. This group may develop prostate cancer signs before the age of fifty.

A prostate exam is the only way to determine if you have prostate cancer. There are many different types of prostate cancer screening tests that your doctor may suggest you undergo. On this page we'll discuss them.

The earlier you have prostate cancer tests the better your chances of receiving treatment options that work effectively and quickly.

Digital Rectal Prostate Exam: This test of course starts with a digital rectal exam which has been one of the most effective ways of finding prostate cancer. Your doctor will be able to tell how big your prostate is and if there are any problems. Your doctor does this by inserting his finger into your rectum. Most men unfortunately are too embarrassed to have this prostate exam done, but you shouldn't be. This prostate exam can save your life.

Urine Prostate Cancer Screening Tests: This prostate exam is not intrusive like the above mentioned one. It can determine if you have a prostate problem by detecting blood or an infection in your urine.

Hyperplasia INTRAVENOUSPYELOGRAM Prostate Cancer Screening Tests: This prostate exam involves X-rays. Your doctor injects a dye into your veins and while it is going through your system pictures are taken of your organs. It shows how the dye goes through your kidneys, bladder and the tubes that empty out your kidneys.

This prostate cancer screening test is good because if you have an enlarged prostate other tests don't always show that you may have problems in your kidneys, etc.

Bladder Ultrasound Prostate Cancer Screening Tests: This prostate cancer screening test can be performed in your doctors office. It's considered a non-invasive procedure. Basically it shows if you have any urine left over in your bladder after you urinate. If you do have a substantial amount left over it means that you have an enlarged prostate that doesn’t allow all of your urine out.

Keep in mind that the best way to avoid any prostate exam is to prevent enlarged prostate problems in the first place.

Ultrasound Prostate Cancer Screening Tests: The size of your prostate can be determined by this test. It can also determine if a biopsy is needed.

Uroflow Prostate Cancer Screening Tests: All you have to do for this test is urinate into a container to measure how strong your urine stream is.

Radionuclide Bone Scan Prostate Cancer Screening Tests: This will determine if prostate cancer has spread to your lymph nodes. If it has, then it may soon spread to your bones.

Cystoscopy Prostate Cancer Testing: This permits your doctor to see your bladder and prostate with his own eyes through an instrument that has been put in your urethra.

Computed Axial Tomography Prostate Cancer Testing: This is an additional prostate exam that can find cancer in harder to find parts of your body.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Prostate Cancer Testing: This test isn't always performed if your prostate cancer hasn't spread.

Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection Prostate Cancer Testing: This is one of the last tests that would be called for to see if your prostate cancer has spread. There are 2 ways to do this procedure. One is through a regular surgical procedure and the other is by using a fiber optic probe.

All of the above mentioned prostate cancer screening tests are done to see if you have cancer in your prostate and how bad it may be if you have it. If your doctor has determined that you do have prostate cancer a biopsy may then be suggested.

A biopsy is done in the urologists office. Biopsy needles are used to extract tissue from any areas of the prostate that look like there may be a problem or where something just doesn’t look right. There is usually just a minor stinging sensation that can be felt.
