The Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes Explained

Learn What Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes To Look For

The symptoms of adult diabetes cannot always be seen, felt or detected. As you are probably aware, diabetes is a serious disease where you have a higher than normal level of blood glucose in your body.

Any symptom of adult onset diabetes can result in serious complications. There are many different symptoms that can include: a need to urination quite often, constant thirst, fluctuations in bodyweight, blurred eyesight, low energy levels, and many more.

However, not all people who actually have diabetes show these type 2 and type 1 diabetes symptoms.

Diabetes can sneak up on you without you knowing, and it could be happening right now.

It can be very hard to detect especially in its early stages.

Statistics show that in the United States alone estimate that there are over twenty million adults suffering from either one form or another of diabetes or the symptoms of adult diabetes.

"The Different Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes"

The 3 main types of diabetes are Type I diabetes, Type II diabetes, and Gestational diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes symptoms, which are also referred to as juvenile diabetes is usually diagnosed in people at a young age in childhood. If you are noticing type 1 diabetes symptoms it usually indicates that your pancreas has stopped producing insulin. People with type 1 diabetes will need to take insulin injections for life.

Type I diabetes is also known as insulin dependent diabetes. While type I diabetes is less common it is more severe and can develop very quickly.

Type 1 diabetes symptoms are more distinct and noticeable than other diabetes symptoms. Here are some of the more common Type 1 diabetes symptoms:

  1. Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes - Frequent Urination: Going to the bathroom very frequently and having a full bladder each time is a good indication of type 1 diabetes. This happens because your body is trying to flush fluids through your kidneys to try and dilute the high levels of sugar in your urine.

  2. Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes - Constant Thirst: Being unusually thirsty is another key Type 1 diabetes symptom. Due to the diabetes symptom of frequent urination, your body will naturally need you to replace lost fluids. If you don't your body will quickly become dehydrated leading to even more diabetes complications.

  3. Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes - Persistent Hunger: Feeling hungry all the time, and experiencing extreme hunger pains is the result of your body thinking that it’s being starved of food because there is not any glucose getting into your cells to provide energy.

  4. Symptoms Of Adult Diabetes - Fast Weight Loss: Most people with type 1 diabetes symptoms are usually under-weight. When you are confronted with type I diabetes you may suddenly lose even more body weight. Some lose as much as 15 pounds in as little as 7 days. This is despite eating more than enough food.

Having a drastically reduced amount of insulin results in glucose being excreted through urine and your body burns body fat for energy.

  5. Symptoms Of Adult Onset Diabetes - A Feeling Of Weakness: Due to your muscle cells not getting their usual fuel your energy levels will drop. You should be concerned if you were usually very active then suddenly you always seem tired, drowsy, or listless for no apparent reason.

  6. Symptom Of Adult Onset Diabetes - Bad temper: Crankiness, confusion or excessive mood swings may be an indication of type 1 diabetes.

  7. Symptom Of Adult Onset Diabetes - Nausea and/or Vomiting: These type 1 diabetes symptoms occur when ketone acids begin to build up in your blood stream causing your body to once again begin burning your fat reserves energy.

  8. Symptom Of Adult Onset Diabetes - Vision Problems: An over-abundance of glucose may get into your eyes changing their shape. This results in having difficulty on focusing on a daily basis.

Type 2 Diabetes Complications

The symptoms of adult diabetes usually indicate Type 2 diabetes. This is the most common type of diabetes as almost all diabetics have it. The symptoms of adult diabetes are often referred to as adult onset diabetes and are diagnosed when you are an adult.

In many cases due to an inactive lifestyle and poor nutritional habits, people will start to develop type II diabetes during their younger years but the type 2 diabetes complications didn't show up until many years later. Most of the time type 2 diabetes complications or symptoms don't appear until it's in the more advanced stage.

Type 2 diabetes complications can be associated with your lifestyle and nutritional habits. This is why you are at greater risk if you are overweight or over the age of forty. So the best thing you can do is to exercise and eat properly.

The other important thing as far as preventing type II diabetes is an early diagnosis. This way you and your doctor can take quick action in treating it and preventing further type 2 diabetes complications.

It's recommended that you get tested every 3 years or so if you are forty or older or are overweight.

Some Type II Diabetes Symptoms:

  • Tingling or numbness in your legs, feet, or fingers.
  • Frequent infections.
  • Itching your of skin or your genitals.
  • Slow healing of cuts and bruises anywhere on your body.
