The Symptoms Of Gestational Diabetes

What Symptoms Of Gestational Diabetes Should You Look For?

The symptoms of gestational diabetes are found among pregnant women. Gestational diabetes symptoms can make any pregnancy more difficult than it already is.

If you have the signs of gestational diabetes you are at a high risk of developing further and more problematic symptoms of diabetes.

In normal pregnant women, the pancreas produces enough insulin that keeps the bodys sugar levels constant.

However there are many women whose pancreas are not able to produce enough insulin, resulting in developing the signs of gestational diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes need extra care, requiring a healthy diet and regular doctor visits.

Ob-Gyns will usually require their patients to undergo the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, especially when the woman is almost overweight due to her pregnancy. Even if the signs of gestational diabetes cease after giving birth, there is a possibility that you may develop Type 2 diabetes in the future.

However, gestational diabetes usually disappears after giving birth and the baby is born without the disease.

Among women who are at risk of gestational diabetes are those who are over 30 years old, have big babies during previous pregnancies, family history of diabetes and of course, being over-weight.

The symptoms of gestational diabetes will usually occur during the third trimester. It can be caused by a change in hormones brought about by pregnancy or, like the other types, lack of insulin.

If no proper care is administered or if the signs of gestational diabetes are left improperly managed, this stealth disease can lead to further complications. These complications may be heart, kidney or eye problems, or even nerve damage. Therefore, careful management is really necessary for all diabetic patients.
